When the Barwon Paper Mills commenced operation 1878 it was one of the most advanced paper mills in the Sourthern Hemisphere. Today, listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and National Trust, it is an emerging food, beverage, arts and cultural precinct. This project involved a fitout of part of the mill’s original boiler room into the working studio, retail store and classroom of ceramicist, Elizabeth Bell. Working to a small budget, the project was designed around the use of upcycled and found materials in celebration of the building’s piecemeal history and patina.
